Lactobacillus Ferment

Colorescience describes it as a probiotic-like ferment derived from probiotic bacteria, formulated to help support a healthy, balanced skin microbiome and barrier.
The important distinction is that this is not a live probiotic.
It is a fermented ingredient containing bacterial-derived components, so for Chris & Alley I would use:
“Supports a balanced skin microbiome environment.”
rather than implying that live bacteria are being added to the skin.
Prickly Pear Cactus Extract
Listed as Opuntia Ficus-Indica Stem Extract.
Rich in naturally occurring polysaccharides, antioxidant compounds, vitamins and minerals, Prickly Pear helps support hydration, soothing and skin comfort.
Colorescience specifically positions it as the REPLENISH component of the cleanser.
Pink Pomelo Extract
Listed as Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract.
Colorescience uses Pink Pomelo as the SOOTHE + SMOOTH component of the formula, helping encourage gentle sloughing of accumulated surface cells.
This is a very mild refining benefit rather than an intensive exfoliating treatment.
Barrier Pro™ contains no dedicated Glycolic, Salicylic or other strong exfoliating acid.
Glycerin
A humectant that helps attract water to the outer layers of the skin.
It contributes to the cleanser's ability to leave skin feeling comfortable and hydrated rather than tight after rinsing.
Propanediol + Glycereth-18
Additional humectant and conditioning ingredients that help support hydration and improve the skin feel of the cleansing base.
Gentle Surfactant System
Barrier Pro™ uses several complementary cleansing agents rather than relying on a harsh high-foaming detergent:
Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate
An effective cleansing surfactant that produces gentle lather and helps remove oil and impurities.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine + Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine
Milder amphoteric surfactants that help improve cleansing while moderating the feel of the formula.
Decyl Glucoside
A mild non-ionic cleanser that complements the broader surfactant system.
This balanced system helps explain how the cleanser can remove water-resistant sunscreen effectively while still maintaining the brand’s gentle positioning.

Use morning and evening.
Colorescience gives slightly different instructions depending on whether sunscreen or makeup is present.
Morning — or when no makeup/SPF is present
Wet the face.
Dispense 1 pump into wet hands.
Apply to wet skin and cleanse thoroughly for at least one minute.
Spend approximately 15 seconds on each area:
Forehead → cheeks and nose → chin → eye area
Avoid getting product directly into the eyes.
Rinse thoroughly.
Evening — when wearing makeup and/or sunscreen
Wet the hands only, leaving the face dry.
Dispense 2–3 pumps into wet hands.
Massage onto the dry face to begin breaking down makeup, sunscreen and impurities.
Add a small amount of water to emulsify.
Then wet the face and hands further and continue cleansing for at least one minute.
Rinse thoroughly.
This dry-skin-first evening method is particularly important when removing water-resistant mineral sunscreen.
