Photostable UV Filter System
Heliocare uses a combination of organic and mineral sunscreen filters to provide broad-spectrum protection.
The currently published INCI includes:
Titanium Dioxide (Nano)
A mineral UV filter that contributes to broad-spectrum photoprotection.
Octocrylene
An organic UV filter contributing primarily to UVB and complementary UVA protection while helping stabilise the sunscreen system.
Ethylhexyl Salicylate / Octisalate
An organic UVB filter that strengthens the overall SPF.
Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine / Tinosorb S
A highly photostable broad-spectrum organic filter providing both UVA and UVB protection.
Together, these form the main sunscreen-filter system responsible for the product’s SPF 50+ and PA++++ ratings.
Fernblock®
Heliocare’s signature technology derived from Polypodium leucotomos fern extract.
Fernblock® provides antioxidant support against free radicals generated by solar exposure and forms part of Heliocare’s broader approach to photoprotection beyond UV filters alone.
Cantabria Labs currently describes it as helping protect against and support repair from solar-radiation-related damage.
For this specific product, I would use Fernblock®, not Fernblock®+, because that is how both Heliocare South Africa and Cantabria Labs currently identify the compact technology.
Iron Oxides
The formula contains CI 77491, CI 77492 and CI 77499.
These pigments create the Beige tint and help provide additional protection against visible light, while also visually concealing uneven tone and pigmentation.
I would correct the current Chris & Alley wording slightly: iron oxides are particularly important for visible-light protection; the dedicated sunscreen filters provide the principal UVA protection.
Green Tea Extract
Listed as Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract.
Green Tea provides antioxidant support, helping neutralise free radicals associated with environmental and solar exposure.
Heliocare specifically highlights it alongside Fernblock® and iron oxides as part of the formula’s dark-spot prevention strategy.
Vitamin E
The formula contains Tocopheryl Acetate and Tocopherol.
These provide complementary antioxidant and skin-conditioning benefits.
Silica + Nylon-12 + Powder Technologies
Silica, Nylon-12, Polymethyl Methacrylate and other powder-texture ingredients help create the product’s characteristic matte, soft-focus finish.
This is particularly useful for combination or oily skin and differentiates the compact from a more fluid sunscreen.

Apply generously and evenly before sun exposure using the included sponge.
Press and blend across the:
Forehead
Cheeks
Nose
Chin
Remaining exposed facial areas
Ensure coverage is even rather than using the compact only as a spot concealer.
Reapply frequently throughout the day, particularly with ongoing outdoor exposure and after conditions that may reduce sunscreen coverage.
Although the formula is very water and sweat resistant, reapplication remains necessary.
For practical touch-ups over makeup, gently press or pat the product onto the skin with the sponge rather than aggressively dragging it across existing complexion products.
Apply generously and evenly with the included sponge before sun exposure.
Reapply frequently throughout the day, especially as a makeup touch-up.
