Basic Skincare Routine

Basic Skincare Routine

The skin is the body's largest organ and the one most vulnerable to sun exposure and environmental pollution. Without a good skincare routine, you will likely experience skin damage, which can be challenging to reverse.

Investing in an entire skincare range can be costly, so we advise that you start with the basics. And, as your skin's needs change, you can add or adjust to your skincare regime.

The most frequently asked skincare question is determining which products to use. And considering the cost of facial products, it's a good one. One does not want to spend money on products not suited for your skin type, needs and concerns. We advise you to book a session with a professionally trained skincare therapist as they will be able to do a thorough skin analysis and, from there, recommend the best products for your specific skin needs.

A step-by-step guide to your basic morning skincare routine:

Step 1: Cleanse with an appropriate facial cleanser, rinse with lukewarm water, and pat dry.

Step 2: Apply moisturiser and give it a minute to absorb into your skin.

Step 3: Apply your sun protection, followed by make-up.

A step-by-step guide to your basic night-time skincare routine:

Step 1: Cleanse with an appropriate facial cleanser, rinse with lukewarm water, and pat dry (double cleanse if you wore make-up).

Step 2: Apply moisturiser.

Your basic weekly skincare routine:

Use an exfoliator twice weekly to rid your skin of all the dead skin cells. Exfoliation aids in effective moisturiser absorption, improves blood circulation, increases skin cell turnover, and assists with antiaging benefits. Furthermore, it unclogs your pores and helps prevent any acne breakouts.

If you wish to advance your weekly regime, you can also use a mask straight after exfoliation twice weekly. Masks contain higher percentages of active ingredients, thus the reason why you only leave it on for a few minutes.

The mask you can apply will depend on your current skin concerns. Whether dry, oily, or to combat ageing, each mask will have its benefits.

A step-by-step guide to your basic night-time skincare routine, including exfoliation and mask:

Step 1: Cleanse with an appropriate facial cleanser, rinse with lukewarm water, and pat dry (double cleanse if you wore make-up).

Step 2: Exfoliate your skin, rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.

Step 3: Apply your mask and leave it for 10 – 15 minutes, rinse off with lukewarm water, and pat dry.

Step 4: Apply moisturiser.

These routines are the basics that people, young or old, male or female, need to follow; cleanse, moisturise and apply SPF sun protection in the mornings only. By doing the basics, you are ridding your skin of environmental pollution, make-up, excess oil, etc. By applying moisturiser, you are protecting your natural skin barrier, which prevents ageing, and by using your SPF every day, including on overcast and winter days, you are protecting your skin against sun damage.
